product Description

Uridine is a glycosylated pyrimidine - analog. It consists of uracil attached to a ribose ring, more precisely a ribofuranose, through a β - N₁ - glycosidic bond. Among the five standard nucleosides that constitute nucleic acids, uridine holds a significant position. The other four nucleosides are adenosine, thymidine, cytidine, and guanosine. These five nucleosides are commonly abbreviated to their one - letter codes: U for uridine, A for adenosine, T for thymidine, C for cytidine, and G for guanosine.

Thymidine is more frequently written as 'dT', where the 'd' stands for 'deoxy'. This is because thymidine contains a 2'-deoxyribofuranose moiety, in contrast to the ribofuranose ring present in uridine. Thymidine is a component of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), while uridine is found in ribonucleic acid (RNA). The remaining three nucleosides (adenosine, cytidine, and guanosine) can be present in both RNA and DNA. In RNA, they are represented as A, C, and G, and in DNA, they are represented as dA, dC, and dG.

Applications

Uridine has multiple applications in the medical field. It can be used as a medicine to treat various conditions such as macrocytic anemia, liver diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, and cardiovascular diseases. Moreover, it serves as the main raw material for the production of several important drugs. For example, it is used in the manufacture of fluorouracil (S - FC), a well - known anti - cancer drug. It is also involved in the synthesis of deoxyribonucleoside, idoxuridine (IDUR), bromodeoxyuridine (BUDR), and fluorodeoxyuridine (FUDR), all of which have significant medical uses in different therapeutic areas.
