Product Description

A lactic acid-forming bacterial species. Gram-positive rod (0.9 by 3.0 to 5.0μm in size), catalase positive, spore-forming, motile, and a facultative anaerobe. Metabolism prefers mesophilic temperature about 40℃, range of temperature is 30–55℃; and it grows in the pH range of 5.5 to 7.0. The spore formed Bacillus spp is more acid tolerant than pathogenic and spoilage microorganisms, good resistant to the high temperature, acidity and bile. Spores of B. coagulans are likely to survive at gastric pH and reach the intestine, where sporulation can occur. The animal or human gastric humidity can help the bacteria to transform from spore form to active state of being, and then produce peptidoglycan to coordinate this inactive/active metabolism.

Bacillus coagulans has been studied and used for a long time, even much before antibiotic discovery. It was regarded as the alternative medicine in a period for bacteria treatment. From the summarized study results, the metabolism of Bacillus coagulans is mainly as:

  • Oxygen consumption by aerobic metabolism to help boost other anaerobic bacteria — especially friendly lactic acid bacteria — to grow. As part of its metabolic activity, it can also produce more organic acid to compete and inhibit the growth of pathogens.
  • The Bacillus spp is able to produce multiple types of enzymes, such as α-amylase, protease, lipase, cellulose etc. These enzymes can facilitate the working of other enzymes from the host animal or human body.
  • Bacillus spp is able to produce sufficient amounts of vitamin B as well as different types of antibodies that can be used as antibiotics such as Iturin A, Chitinase, Gramidicin, Polymycin, Nystatin etc. These work together with natural nutrition supplements as well as natural antibiotics.
  • Bacillus coagulans produces L(+) Lactic acid.

Due to the strong surviving ability as well as the comprehensive metabolism ability, Bacillus spp in the past tens of years are widely used in the enzyme industry, animal nutrition and health, environment control etc. In some regions such as America, Ukraine, Italy etc., it is a very popular ingredient of probiotic products meant for human consumption. Bacillus coagulans is included in CFDA approved safe strains to be used for human foods in China. It is also generally approved in the EFSA-QPS list as well as the US-GRAS list.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q What is Bacillus coagulans and how does it differ from other probiotics?
Bacillus coagulans is a spore-forming, lactic acid-producing bacterium. Unlike many conventional probiotics, its spore form allows it to withstand harsh gastric conditions — including high acidity and elevated temperatures — ensuring it reaches the intestine alive and active, where it then germinates and exerts its beneficial effects.
Q Is Bacillus coagulans safe for human consumption?
Yes. Bacillus coagulans is recognized as safe by multiple regulatory authorities. It is included in the CFDA approved safe strains list for human foods in China, is listed on the EFSA Qualified Presumption of Safety (QPS) list, and holds US-GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) status.
Q What is the recommended storage condition for Bacillus coagulans powder?
The product should be stored at -18°C in a well-sealed package, protected from moisture and direct sunlight. Under these conditions, a shelf life of at least 24 months can be guaranteed. The water activity is maintained below 0.12 and moisture content at ≤ 8.0% to ensure product stability.
Q What are the main applications of Bacillus coagulans?
Bacillus coagulans is highly versatile. It is used in human health products such as capsules, tablets, sachets, and drops; in functional food formats including gummies and hot drinks; in animal nutrition and feed formulations; and in aquaculture feed starter cultures. Its heat stability makes it particularly suitable for applications that involve processing at elevated temperatures.
Q How does Bacillus coagulans support gut health?
Bacillus coagulans supports gut health through multiple mechanisms: it promotes the growth of beneficial lactic acid bacteria and bifidobacteria; secretes digestive enzymes (amylase, protease, lipase) to enhance nutrient absorption; produces vitamins and short-chain fatty acids to improve intestinal motility; and releases coagulin, a natural bacteriostatic agent that helps reduce gastrointestinal inflammation.
Q What is the viable cell count specification for this product?
The product guarantees a viable cell count of ≥ 1.0×1011 CFU/g. Strict quality controls are applied for contaminants, with coliform counts ≤ 10 CFU/g, yeast & mold ≤ 50 CFU/g, and confirmed negative results for Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Staphylococcus aureus, and Shigella in 25g samples.
