Research Reveals Potential of Tetradecylthioacetic Acid (TTA) in Weight Management
Tetradecylthioacetic acid(CAS#2921-20-2), is technically an omega-3 fatty acid with fat-burning properties. While your body cannot use it as a source of energy, it can help regulate the amount of fat that your body can store by affecting genes associated with metabolism. In addition, tetradecylthioacetic acid is also known to improve your overall health through its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer properties. Tetradecylthioacetic acid can be taken in the form of supplements.

TTA acts as a peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα) agonist and increases mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation in vitro. In rodent studies, TTA has been reported to have other activities such as reducing inflammation and preventing high fat diet induced adiposity and insulin resistance. BASF previously explored TTA for Type 2 diabetes treatment, but discontinued project after Phase II Trials
Tetradecylthioacetic Acid benefits include enhanced fat metabolism, improved mitochondrial function, and reduced inflammation. It may also support cardiovascular health and help regulate lipid levels, making it a potential aid in managing metabolic disorders.
In human clinical study, there have been mixed observations in preliminary studies. One Phase I study showed no significant changes in the blood lipids or free fatty acids and another showed that TTA attenuates dyslipidemia in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
