Indene

As a core industrial chemical, indene appears as a transparent to light yellow liquid with a characteristic aromatic odor. It has a melting point of -1.8℃, a boiling point of 182.6℃ (at normal pressure), a density of approximately 0.996g/cm³ (20℃), and a flash point of 58℃ (closed cup). It is insoluble in water but miscible with most organic solvents such as ethanol, ether, benzene, and chloroform. Strict storage and transportation conditions must be followed to maintain its stability and prevent polymerization.

For quality control, indene complies with strict industrial grade standards: purity >96% (GC); benzonitrile content <3%; water content <0.2%; appearance (transparent to light yellow liquid, no visible impurities) and packing integrity (well-packed 200kg galvanized steel drums without damage). These controls ensure batch consistency and suitability for industrial processing.

Industrially, indene is primarily used in the production of coumarone-indene resins for coatings, adhesives, and rubber modifiers; it also serves as a monomer for synthetic petroleum resins and a raw material for the synthesis of indene-based polymers and pharmaceutical intermediates.

Indene is a hazardous chemical (UN 2319, Class 3 Flammable Liquid, Packing Group III). It is flammable, irritating to skin and eyes, and harmful if inhaled or ingested. It poses a fire hazard and environmental risk to aquatic organisms. Proper protective equipment and fire prevention measures should be implemented during operation, and storage/transportation must adhere to flammable liquid regulations.
