Product Description

A lactic acid-forming bacterial species. Gram-positive rod (0.9 by 3.0 to 5.0μm in size), catalase positive, spore-forming, motile, and a facultative anaerobe. Metabolism prefers mesophilic temperature about 40℃, range of temperature is 30–55℃; and it grows in the pH range of 5.5 to 7.0. The spore formed Bacillus spp is more acid tolerant than pathogenic and spoilage microorganisms, good resistant to the high temperature, acidity and bile. Spores of B. coagulans are likely to survive at gastric pH and reach the intestine, where sporulation can occur. The animal or human gastric humidity can help the bacteria to transform from spore form to active state of being, and then produce peptidoglycan to coordinate this inactive/active metabolism.

Bacillus coagulans has been studied and used for a long time, even much before antibiotic discovery. It was regarded as alternative medicine in a period for bacteria treatment.

ⓘ  The metabolism of Bacillus coagulans is mainly as follows:
  • Oxygen Consumption & Anaerobic Support: Oxygen consumption by aerobic metabolism to help boost other anaerobic bacteria, especially the friendly lactic acid bacteria, to grow up. As part of its metabolic activity, it can also produce more organic acid to compete and inhibit the growth of pathogens.
  • Multi-Enzyme Production: Bacillus spp is able to produce multiple types of enzymes, such as α-amylase, protease, lipase, cellulose etc. These enzymes can facilitate the working of other enzymes from the host animal or human body.
  • Vitamin B & Natural Antibiotics: Bacillus spp is able to produce sufficient amounts of vitamin B as well as different types of antibodies that can be used as antibiotics such as Iturin A, Chitinase, Gramidicin, Polymycin, Nystatin etc. These work together with natural nutrition supplements as well as natural antibiotics.
  • L(+) Lactic Acid Production: Bacillus coagulans produces L(+) Lactic acid, supporting a healthy gut environment.

Due to the strong surviving ability as well as the comprehensive metabolism ability, Bacillus spp in the past tens of years are widely used in the enzyme industry, animal nutrition and health, environment control etc. In some regions such as America, Ukraine, Italy etc., it is a very popular ingredient of probiotic products meant for human consumption. Bacillus coagulans is included in CFDA approved safe strains to be used for human foods in China. It is also generally approved in the EFSA-QPS list as well as the US-GRAS list.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Bacillus coagulans and how does it differ from other probiotics?
Bacillus coagulans is a spore-forming, lactic acid-producing bacterium. Unlike many conventional probiotics, its spore form allows it to survive harsh conditions such as high temperatures, acidity, and bile salts, giving it superior stability and a higher chance of reaching the intestine alive and active.
Is Bacillus coagulans safe for human consumption?
Yes. Bacillus coagulans is included in the CFDA approved safe strains list for use in human foods in China, and is also recognized on the EFSA-QPS list and the US-GRAS list, confirming its safety for human consumption.
What health benefits does Bacillus coagulans provide?
Bacillus coagulans supports gut health by restoring microbial balance, enhancing digestion, and reducing gastrointestinal inflammation. It also boosts immunity, aids sports recovery, and helps maintain healthy blood lipid and blood sugar levels for overall metabolic support.
In what forms and applications can Bacillus coagulans be used?
It can be incorporated into a wide range of products including capsules, tablets, sachets, drops, gummies, hot drinks, animal feed, and aquaculture feeds, making it highly versatile for both human health and animal nutrition applications.
What is the viable cell count and how is product quality ensured?
The product guarantees a viable cell count of ≥ 1.0×10¹¹ CFU/g. Quality is ensured through rigorous microbiology testing including checks for coliforms, yeast & mold, E. coli, Salmonella, Staphylococcus aureus, and Shigella, as well as heavy metal analysis for lead, arsenic, cadmium, and mercury.
How should Bacillus coagulans be stored and what is its shelf life?
Bacillus coagulans should be stored at -18°C in a well-sealed package, away from moisture and direct sunlight. Under these conditions, the product maintains its quality and efficacy for at least 24 months.
